Wikipedia dispose feature Google Maps

Wikipedia dispose Google Maps feature on the latest application version 3.1 for the Apple platform (IOS) and replace it with OpenStreetMap, a free open source map data is called the "Wikipedia for Maps."

"Our application using the previous version of Google Maps to view locations near you. Now, it is replaced OpenStreetMap feature," writes the official blog Yuvi Panda in Wikipedia.

The use of OpenStreetMap, as written in her blog, referring to the purpose of Wikipedia is to provide knowledge freely available to everyone.

"This change has also meant that we no longer use Google's API in our code, it helps us to run on millions of Android-based devices at reasonable cost," wrote the Panda.

Wikipedia has launched an application for Android users and announce features in the application which includes search suggestions, full text search, and save the page when breaking up the network is lost.

Then there is also a feature shared via Twitter and Facebook, save pages to read later, regulate and control the language, integration with maps, and view the location in the article that uses OpenStreetMap, and navigation of page impressions.

Wikipedia also invited the portal application developers, mobile phones and related products to help improve Wikipedia application deficiencies.
